The Spoon Theory by Christine Miserandino

A friend of mine sent me this link:

The Spoon Theory.

This is written by someone who has lupus, which is much worse than being on chemo, because even with a terminal diagnosis you get quality of life breaks from the chemo. With lupus, you don’t get any breaks.

But this is a perfect description of how it feels after having chemo – even though you do get more spoons the further out you get from a chemo treatment, the first few days are tough. If I didn’t know I’d be seeing an easing of the symptoms over time, I don’t know how I’d ever be able to cope. One has to admire Ms. Miserandino for being able to not only live her life, but to be able to share her life with the rest of us so that we can have some understanding of it.

And the best part of it is, you don’t *look* sick!

Chemo #5 – Monsters, Inc.

My little brother sent me a story by e-mail about how he is often the only playmate around for his little girl when all the boys are off doing stuff; so he and she often end up playing “Monsters, Inc.” based on their favorite movie. She calls him “Kitty”, and they dance and sing and get silly together.

So I took the laptop with me to chemo on Monday and re-watched Monsters, Inc. with a fresh perspective. It’s always been one of my favorite movies, and now I have a new reason to love it. I was a little wary of opening the bathroom doors at the infusion suite while dragging my IV pump with me, though – I mean, who would be the monster if someone saw me dragging that thing around?
